It has come to my attention that wire techs will be installing GPONs on fiber jobs. Looking over the new contract, I need clarity on this matter. In order to do fiber work, a technician needs to be fiber certified. It is my belief that wire technicians or other technicians should be fiber certified before doing any work with fiber optics. I was informed today by a representative from APT college that a CWA local in Florida went on strike due to management forcing technicians to do jobs they are not certified to do. If this is apart of the new contract agreement, all wire technicians in the area should be fiber certified at the companies expense in order for work to be done properly. Another alternative is to have a core group of wire technicians and other technicians that are certified to do fiber installation jobs and must be certified to do so through the ETA fiber optic certification program. If anyone has any idea or can clarify this please post below or call me at 662-825-2263. Thank you, Trent
